Being launched on 8. February 2013 from Kourou in French Guiana, Azerspace 1 also known as Africasat 1A, startet to provide a service with 12 Ku-Band and 24 C-Band transponders. For a lifespan longer then 2028 the telecommunication satellite with  the position at 46° East in geostationary orbit represents Azerbaijans first launched satellite.

The satellite covers Africa, Europe and a significant part of Asia providing TV, radio broadcasting and Internet transmissions like VSAT (iDirect, Newtec, UHP, Comtech).
